 Millions of Americans, including those in the transportation industry, are worried about retirement. Almost half the private sector workers in the U.S. are not covered by an employer-provided pension plan. Instead of making it easier for corporations to raid pensions, efforts must be made to expand pensions, increase portability and enhance protections.
Social Security is a vitally important program that touches the lives of virtually all Americans. At a time when incomes often do not allow for significant savings, Social Security is the foundation of retirement security. Special interests are fanning fears of the demise of Social Security to create a false sense of crisis. Opponents want to undermine support for the current system and replace it with costly private investment accounts - which would cost working families dearly.
AFA believes that Social Security works and we must strengthen it for working families. By strengthening Social Security with responsible and modest changes now, we can ensure its protections are there for today's workers, our children, and our grandchildren.
