Dear AFA Member,

I want to welcome you to an extraordinary opportunity to complete your college education made possible by the partnership between the Association of Flight Attendants and the National Labor College. The National Labor College is a unique higher education institution, supported by the unions of the AFL-CIO, in which union members are able to obtain academic credit for their occupational training and their work and life experience. Our accredited “low-residence” format, which combines on-line instruction with an intensive six-day visit to campus each term, allows you to continue working full time or fulfilling your family responsibilities while you complete your course work.

As part of your course work you will complete an educational portfolio in which you’ll document the college credit equivalent learning you have obtained from your Flight Attendant training, other training and work or life experience. Once you complete your portfolio, you will receive a college transcript listing your credits. You will probably find that you’re much closer to completing a Bachelor of Arts degree than you realized. If you already have a bachelor’s degree, you may be interested in one of the masters degree programs that are offered on our campus.

You will find the courses offered by both the AFA and the NLC to be relevant and challenging. We have assembled an outstanding faculty, and your fellow students are all adults with significant work and union experience. This makes for lively discussions both inside and outside the classroom.

I don’t need to remind you that the overall U.S. economy and your industry are in the midst of a particularly difficult period. Figuring out how to solve these kinds of problems demands more knowledge and skill from all of us. Now would be a very good time to think about investing in your own education. And your union has made it very accessible and affordable.

We have a terrific program and we’d like you to be part of it. Why don’t you start the admission process today? I hope to see you on campus. For more information visit our website, www.georgemeany.org  or call us at 1-800-462-4237.

Yours very sincerely,

Sue Schurman, President
