Flight Attendants Stand In Support Of Marriage Equality At
Boeing
Washington, DC – Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants, represented
by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) issued a
statement today in support of members of the Society of
Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), IFPTE
Local 2001 at The Boeing Company in their struggle for equal
rights. Alaska AFA President Jeffrey Peterson said the
following:
“AFA has a longstanding commitment to equality regardless of
sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression which
is why Alaska Flight Attendants stand in solidarity with our
aviation colleagues at Boeing in their struggle for equal
rights. With an all-Boeing fleet of aircraft, Alaska Flight
Attendants depend on the professionalism and dedication of SPEEA
members each and every day.
“Voters in nine states across the nation have instructed their
elected representatives to address marriage equality issues.
Recently in Washington, all couples regardless of gender finally
have the opportunity to legally marry. Yet, Boeing is refusing
to recognize married couples equally.
“We are all partners in the success of the aviation industry and
we call on Boeing executives to provide equal benefits to all
couples legally married under state law.”
The Association of Flight Attendants is the world’s largest
Flight Attendant union. Focused 100 percent on Flight Attendant
issues, AFA has been the leader in advancing the Flight
Attendant profession for 67 years. Serving as the voice for
Flight Attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in
the media and on Capitol Hill, AFA has transformed the Flight
Attendant profession by raising wages, benefits and working
conditions. Nearly 60,000 Flight Attendants come together to
form AFA, part of the 700,000-member strong Communications
Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at
