Northwest Flight Attendants Conduct CHAOS™ Activities at Minneapolis and Detroit Airports
Minneapolis, MN & Detroit, MI - As negotiations with the company continue and the July 17 deadline quickly approaches, Northwest flight attendants are preparing themselves for possible CHAOS actions at the airline. Flight attendants today will picket and leaflet at Minneapolis International Airport and Detroit Metro Airport in order to spread the message a strike may occur at the airline as early as Monday.
"While we remain committed to reaching an agreement that can ratify, we would caution Northwest executives from underestimating the flight attendants' resolve," said Mollie Reiley, Interim Master Executive Council President.
A federal bankruptcy judge previously granted the company's motion seeking authority to impose unilateral changes to the flight attendants' wages and working conditions on July 17 if no agreement is reached with AFA-CWA, the collective bargaining representative for Northwest flight attendants. Such unilateral changes by management trigger a legal right to strike.
CHAOS, or Create Havoc Around Our System™ is the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) trademarked strategy of targeted work actions using random, unannounced strikes. An all-out strike or CHAOS will not take place unless Northwest management imposes their proposal without AFA-CWA's agreement.
Flight attendants will picket and leaflet at the following locations:
Minneapolis International Airport NWA Ticket Level Doors and the East Upper Level Roadway Time: 3 pm – 4:30 pm Local Contact: Sara Nelson, 202-286-1973
Detroit Metro Airport McNamara Terminal – Departure Level Time: 3 pm – 5 pm Local Contact: Danny Campbell, 734-276-5455
For over 60 years, the Association of Flight Attendants has been serving as the voice for flight attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill. More than 55,000 flight attendants at 20 airlines come together to form AFA-CWA, the world's largest flight attendant union. AFA is part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at www.afanet.org .
