Scholarship Guidelines
The winners of the 2011 scholarships are both children of US Airways Flight Attendants. The $2,500 scholarship was awarded to Chelsea Jordan Burrell, who expects to graduate from North Carolina State University by December 2013 with a degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish. Her philanthropic nature is evident not only in her career goal of supporting athletes as a sports psychologist, but also in her extensive community service activities. Either as a psychologist or in another capacity, Chelsea plans to pursue her interest in the welfare of children. Her volunteer work as a ‘Big Sister’ to a fifth-grade boy and at a local food bank and children’s hospital “has truly opened my eyes to how much children do get neglected,” Chelsea says.
AFA’s 2011 $1,000 scholarship winner is Mitchell Turner, an accomplished athlete, involved church member and all-around high achiever in high school. Mitchell is a freshman at the University of Georgia with his sights set on a degree in finance from the University’s Terry College of Business.
We are proud of AFA’s 2011 scholarship winners and wish them both great success in their academic endeavors. Congratulations, Chelsea and Mitchell!
