Washington, DC – The National Mediation Board (NMB) announced this week the voting schedule for a representation election for Lynx Aviation flight attendants. Last month, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) submitted signature cards to the NMB from Lynx flight attendants who want AFA-CWA as their collective bargaining representative. Balloting instructions will be sent to Lynx flight attendants on December 15. Voting will take place December 15 through January 12, 2009.
"We could not think of a better way to start the New Year than by welcoming Lynx flight attendants to the world's largest flight attendant union," said AFA-CWA International President Patricia Friend. "Lynx flight attendants have a unique opportunity to shape the future of their careers by joining AFA-CWA and we look forward to strengthening our union together."
Lynx Aviation is a regional carrier for Frontier Airlines and often flies under the moniker of Frontier Express. There are currently 87 flight attendants working at the carrier.
"Through collective bargaining rights and a strong voice at the table, we will have an active role in advancing our profession," said Cindy Castor, Lynx Aviation flight attendant and AFA-CWA activist. "This is exactly what we need right now and we look forward to joining the largest flight attendant organization that fights on behalf of flight attendants every day."
The NMB is the federal agency that oversees union representation elections in the airline industry. For over 60 years, the Association of Flight Attendants has been serving as the voice for flight attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill. More than 55,000 flight attendants at 20 airlines come together to form AFA-CWA, the world's largest flight attendant union. AFA is part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at www.afanet.org.
