Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) Quote about mandating basic security training for flight attendants:

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard“I would like to thank the Association of Flight Attendants for working diligently to inform Members of Congress about the critical need for basic standardized security training for flight attendants on commercial flights.

Flight attendants are the only personnel guaranteed to be in the cabin with passengers on every flight. They are highly professional and well trained to respond to medical and other emergencies. Not all flight attendants, however, have received the basic training needed to properly respond to potential security or terrorist threats.

As a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I’m thrilled that my request requiring the Transportation Security Administration to issue regulations on basic flight attendant security training was included in the Homeland Security appropriations bill. This security training will help ensure flight attendants are knowledgeable on how to properly respond to security or terrorist threats which ultimately will save lives.

I will continue to work with Congressional leaders to ensure this requirement remains in the final version of the bill.”
